The City Ramblers

Skiffle was homespun folk music that enjoyed immense popularity in the UK in the 1950s. Usually one or two instruments were fashioned out of everyday objects, like a makeshift base pieced together with a tea chest and broom handle. When Hylda returned from a tour in Germany with her Skiffle group "The City Ramblers", she found herself at the epicentre of a pop phenomenon. The band cut records for Tempo, and made regular appearances on BBC radio and television.
